“Tell me what it is that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Mary Oliver

At the start of this year, many of us will have thought about the year ahead and our intentions for how we want to live our lives professionally and personally. Amid the pandemic, our intentions act like an internal compass, guiding our actions; setting a course; a direction; our path through all this constant change.

When we set an intention, our attention and action follow – hence the idea that ‘energy follows focus.’ We are embodying our intentions all the time, and this can be an unconscious reactive process or we can bring these into the light of awareness and more consciously embody these, creating alignment with our personal values.

Personally, I find using the ‘Wheel of Life’ a helpful visual aid that allows me to formulate a meaningful intention in each of the segments of the wheel. Once completed, it helps me identify my core intentions at the centre of my wheel for how I want to live my life.

Try this for yourself.

Once you have completed this exercise, I would recommend printing it off and placing it near your desk so that you can pause during your day and remind yourself of how you consciously wish to live it. Check-in with your internal compass – your ‘true north’ — to help you navigate through this Covid world.

Once you have set these intentions, it can be challenging to remember them in the midst of all the change and constant doing in daily life. How can we create conscious moments to pause and check in with our intentions for living our lives? As the Zen teacher Suzuki Roshi says, “The most important thing is to remember the most important thing.”

To support you to do this, and to pause and reset, from 17 January, I will be providing a free guided online mindfulness practice every Monday at 8am UK time. Each one will last up to 30 minutes.

Please note that there will be a few exceptions — there will not be a session on 11 April, 18 April, 2 May, 4 July, 1 August, 8 August, 15 August, 22 August, 29 August, 24 October, 26 December.

To register for the sessions, please follow this link.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the sessions. The same link will then be used each week to join the Monday morning session.

I hope you will join me, take this time and focus on your self care during 2022.
